Welcome to The Kin Face: What Even Is Face Yoga?

~ For women curious about natural facial rejuvenation ~

My Face Yoga Journey

I discovered Face Yoga during a period of deep exhaustion. Somewhere between the strangeness of the pandemic, caring for my daughter through years of chronic migraines, and the slow collapse of my beloved tea business, I looked in the mirror and barely recognised myself.

Stress had taken a visible toll. I had lost a lot of weight. My facial tissues looked depleted, tense, and tired. I carried a tension headache that pulsed through each day. I was not someone who ever imagined needles in my face, yet I found myself thinking maybe Botox or fillers could erase the sadness etched into my expression. That moment frightened me. I did not want to disconnect from my own face.

Then I found Face Yoga.

I joined Niki Terlich’s Face Yoga Gym for a trial and discovered an incredibly supportive practice. Short and longer sessions combining facial exercise, massage, gua sha, cupping, breathing, meditation, and nervous system care. The core message: you are worthy of care and beauty as you are. The goal: radiance, not perfection.

I committed to a year of practice. My tension headaches began to ease as my muscles rebalanced. Circulation improved. The warmth returned to my skin. My expression softened from “exhausted sadness” to a cheeky, more peaceful version of myself. I started feeling at home in my face again.

Not every day was perfect. Some mornings I still woke up looking like a swamp witch, yet I now had tools to support myself through the occasional night of poor sleep (or whatever challenge life served up that day.) My facial tissues became more resilient and started to 'bounce back' quicker. The most profound shift was emotional. To catch my reflection and feel peace and appreciation. To see a deepened frown line with grace and anatomical understanding, rather than disappointment and judgement. Life got a lot better when my inner voice had a 'kind and compassionate' upgrade.

From Practice to Profession

When Niki opened international training for Face Yoga and the Face Core Method, I enrolled instantly. I completed both certifications (often in the middle of the night from New Zealand while the class streamed live in Denmark) along with ongoing anatomy and physiology training for facialists.

The more I learned, the more passionate I became about contributing to a culture where women feel free to age naturally, peacefully, and radiantly. We deserve to enjoy our faces. We deserve to feel beautiful at every chapter.

So what is Face Yoga really?

Face Yoga is so much more than lifting the eyebrows or making funny faces. It is a method grounded in understanding facial anatomy, circulation, lymphatic flow, and the mind-body connection.

In short: Face Yoga is primarily a set of resistance exercises for our unique facial muscles, coupled with stretches and massage techniques to facilitate lift, tone, and healthy function of the soft tissues.

The outcome? More balanced facial proportions, skin rejuvenation, less held tension, less stagnation - more glow!

Add-on techniques are common with most Face Yoga methods. You'll probably see gua sha, cupping, and kinesio-taping integrated into workouts. This is the case here at Kin! These supportive techniques enhance the positive benefits of Face Yoga, and help to build longer term results.
